On Friday, May 24, 2024, The Billy Davis Foundation partners with Angel of Harlem to celebrate the strength of the Human spirit with popular New York City Fitness Industry Veteran, Real Estate Agent, and Para-Triathlete Billy Davis. They are teaming up for Davis’ Annual Cheeseburger Day.  In its ninth year, Cheeseburger Day celebrates the strength of the human spirit and raises money for The Billy Davis Foundation, whose mission is to raise money and provide support for amputees with limited financial options who need specialized equipment. "We accomplish this through gestures that touch, move and inspire others into action,” says Davis.

On May 19th, 2012, Davis lost his left leg above the knee in a near fatal motorcycle accident. “When I awoke from my coma five days later, I immediately asked for a Cheeseburger and a Coke,” explains Davis. “So, every year since, I celebrate my ‘Alive Day’ and the day I woke up from my coma by eating a cheeseburger to remember those who have survived traumatic limb loss. My friends and I jokingly called it Cheeseburger Day!” Every year since, Davis has been flooded with pictures on social media of people all over the world enjoying burgers. "I'm grateful for Angel of Harlem for supporting me in my goal to turn Cheeseburger Day into a fundraiser for victims of limb loss," says Davis. “In the past, Cheeseburger Day has raised more than $20,000 for Groups like Wiggle Your Toes, ASPIRE and Achilles International."

For everyone who purchases the “Billy Davis Burger” on Cheeseburger Day, Angel of Harlem will donate a portion of the burger’s cost to The Billy Davis Foundation that will ultimately go to Achilles International - NYC.  Achilles International, a global organization operating in 18 countries including the US, transforms the lives of people with disabilities through athletic programs and social connection.

A born athlete, Davis played football, wrestled, and track in Topeka, KS. While there, he would rack up countless accolades for each sport before eventually winning state title in 1992. This win secured Dave a scholarship to the University of Kansas the following semester.

In 1998, Davis moved to Jersey City, NJ to pursue a music career as a member of the R&B and Pop boy band Slō Motion. While the group would eventually end, Davis found a new home on the East Coast and discovered Jiu Jitsu and Tough Mudders. He would win the North American Grappling Association (NAGA) 2004 heavyweight novice title.  Davis is also an avid cyclist and has participated in the TD Five Borough Bike Tour and the Montauk Century on multiple occasions.

All of these factors came together when, six months after surviving the horrific motorcycle accident that took his left leg above the knee, he would return to his job as a successful New York City personal trainer. But not before enduring nine surgeries and spending four and a half months in inpatient rehab at Westchester Medical Center in Westchester, NY. Doctors, friends and family credit Davis’s exceptional physical conditioning along with his incredible work ethic and determination as primary factors in his amazing recovery. Although Davis was back on his bicycle less than 12 months after his accident, it would be another three years of grueling work and countless obstacles before he would participate in his first New York City Triathlon with Achilles and Wiggle Your Toes in 2015.

Since then, he has participated every year there has been the NYC Triathlon and enjoys raising money for his fellow amputees and the limb loss community.  In addition to being a veteran in the fitness industry, Davis is also a real estate agent at Compass Real Estate Agency. Davis currently resides in New York City.
